Growing up in Newport I was fortunate enough to know the freedom of exploring the countryside on foot and by bike in relative safety. In recent years I have rediscovered that feeling of freedom and  pleasure riding the quiet roads and lanes around my home town. The terrain around Newport is ideal for cycling, being mostly gently undulating arable farm land.  There are numerous villages and hamlets to discover, many with a long and colourful history.

I don't call myself a cyclist but I do enjoy going out on my bike or trike with husband Jeff and a couple of friends whenever time and weather permit. However we were getting into a bit of a rut, tending to stick to the same few favourite routes so I decided to do something about it.

I spent many hours last spring and summer pouring over the map, plotting new routes, riding and measuring them. Finally I compiled them all into a book which I hoped would not only be useful to us but would also encourage the hesitant cyclist to get out there and have a go.

I arranged these rides in  order of distance starting from 5 miles up to 35 miles so that there should be something there to suit most levels.

So if you have just bought a new bike or if you already have one gathering dust in the garage then get it out check it over and off you go. This book will give you a start.
